Faculty Position: American History & Political Science

Cornerstone University is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Faculty member in American History & Political Science to help shape how students understand the nation’s past, its governing institutions, and the ideas that influence public life. If you’re an active scholar and a dedicated educator who connects rigorous research to meaningful classroom learning, we’d love to meet you.

In this role, you’ll contribute to the academic life of the university through scholarship appropriate to rank and through teaching that challenges students to think critically about American history, political systems, and political philosophy.

About The Role

As a Faculty member of American History & Political Science, you will join a community of educators and researchers committed to academic excellence. You’ll teach courses that may span American history, political science, political philosophy, and related fields, and you’ll maintain an active record of scholarship aligned with your professional stage and rank.

This position is designed for someone who brings both intellectual depth and a genuine commitment to student success—someone who can translate scholarship into curriculum and classroom discussion.

What You’ll Do

• Teach undergraduate courses in American History and Political Science (and closely related topics), using clear, engaging methods that support student learning.
• Maintain active scholarship appropriate to rank, including research, publications, conference participation, and/or public writing.
• Contribute to departmental and university academic life through service and collaboration with colleagues.
• Support student development through thoughtful instruction, advising, and academic guidance.
• Engage in professional development to sustain and grow your scholarly impact over time.

What We’re Looking For

• Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in American history, political science, political philosophy, American studies, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated research and scholarly activity appropriate to rank, such as:
  • peer-reviewed publications
  • conference participation
  • ongoing research projects
  • public writing or other scholarly public engagement
• Strong teaching capability with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
• Commitment to academic excellence and a student-centered approach to education.
• Professional readiness to contribute to a collaborative academic environment.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in American history, political science, political philosophy, American studies, or a closely related discipline.
• Required evidence of an active record of scholarship appropriate to rank, including research, publication, conference participation, and/or public writing.
