A.Team
About A·Team
A·Team is a VC-backed, stealth, application-only home on the internet for senior independent software builders who want to team up with hand-picked, high-growth companies on their next big initiatives. Since quietly launching in May 2020, A·Teamers have earned $85M+.
We built A·Team because independent engineers (and product-minded builders) kept telling us the same thing: finding vetted, high-quality, consistently good clients is hard—and projects are often too small to be rewarding.
Our model matches small teams of top builders with ambitious companies (including Lyft, McGraw Hill, ClearCo, Pepsi, Walmart, the former CEO of Waze, leading vaccine production software, and multiple unicorns we can’t publicly name). New clients come through trusted referral, because quality is the whole point.

The Role
As a Senior Independent Software Developer at A·Team, you’ll be invited to impactful missions that match your interests—ranging from early-stage incubations with world-class founders to fast-growing, well-funded teams, and even established non-tech incumbents building like tech giants.
This isn’t “take a ticket and grind.” This is 0→1 product building with autonomy, senior judgment, and the freedom to say yes only when the work genuinely excites you.
What You’ll Do
Most missions involve building an ambitious piece of software from zero to one as part of a small 3–4 person team. You’ll be expected to help steer the build—not just execute it.
- Scope and shape new initiatives—turn ambiguity into a clear plan by defining the problem, constraints, and options.
- Guide strategy with senior-level judgment—help the client decide what to build and in what sequence.
- Execute the selected solution—design, implement, and deliver production-ready software.
- Build with a “team of experts” mindset—collaborate closely with a small group of top builders (and keep the team tight).
- Adapt to different levels of client clarity—sometimes the client has a strong vision; sometimes you’ll need to help them find it.
- Provide the client with decision-ready tradeoffs—recommend options, outline risks, and support confident selection.
- Own outcomes—you’ll be paid not only to code, but to think, structure, and drive execution.
How Missions Work
- You’ll be regularly invited to missions aligned to your interests and strengths.
- Missions typically include scoping, solution options, strategy guidance, and then hands-on implementation.
- You can choose the right fit—if you’re not feeling a mission, you can say no without pressure.
- A·Team helps you stay focused: the work is designed for senior builders who thrive in autonomy and high-quality collaboration.
What A·Teamers Get
- High-paying, meaningful missions with audacious companies—generally $90–$150+/hr.
- Vetted, fascinating clients (new clients only come via trusted referral).
- Work alongside friends old & new—A·Team’s niche is small/diverse product teams. We keep friends together whenever we can.
- Full autonomy—say “no” to what doesn’t excite you. If you need to pause, it’s easy.
- Curated, off-the-record gatherings—micro-communities for top builders to connect around what they care about.
- Keep 100% of what you earn—if you charge $120/hr, you get $120/hr. A·Team charges only a small, transparent platform fee on top.
What We’re Looking For
A·Team is built for builders who want autonomy, variety, and meaningful product work—without the chaos of inconsistent projects or the constraints of traditional employment.
- Senior software developer with the judgment to scope, recommend, and build.
- A preference for consistent contract work over a single full-time role.
- Experience working in small teams (or the ability to quickly operate effectively in one).
- Comfort with 0→1 development—where requirements may evolve and direction may need to be shaped collaboratively.
- The ability to collaborate deeply while still working independently when needed.
- You must be located in the Americas, Europe, or Israel to apply.
Who This Is For
- Senior developers who left large companies and/or high-growth startups to pursue their craft with autonomy.
- Builders who want variety—creating new products alongside other top-tier engineers.
-
People who spend most of their time independent, and those who are:
- employed full-time and testing client work,
- bootstrapping a side project, or
- actively looking for their next big thing.
Who This Isn’t For
- Anyone looking for small gigs or low-impact tasks.
- People seeking simple website work (WordPress/Wix/Squarespace-style).
- Those still early in their careers—specifically less than 4 years of experience, or recent university/bootcamp grads (not yet).
Our Long-Term Vision (“Unhirables”)
A·Team is building a new kind of company for a new kind of independent software builder. We call them “unhirables”: people traditional companies couldn’t hire full-time even if they wanted to—but who still want to do their most meaningful work with their favorite people in small, autonomous, distributed expert teams.
