Government Property Agency

Senior Systems Accountant (SEO)

Turn complex property and financial systems into clear, reliable reporting that leaders can trust. As a Senior Systems Accountant at the Government Property Agency, you’ll help strengthen the financial backbone behind how government property is managed—supporting better decisions, better controls, and better outcomes across one of the UK’s largest property portfolios.

You’ll be joining an organisation with real impact: we hold over £2.1 billion in property assets and manage more than 50% of the government’s office estate. If you’re a qualified accountant who enjoys systems, data, and governance, this is a role where your expertise will be seen.

About The Role

The Government Property Agency (GPA) is transforming how the Civil Service works by building great places to work and modernising commercial property management. In this role, you’ll take ownership of the systems and processes that underpin financial accounting—ensuring the right controls, accurate data flows, and strong reporting across the organisation.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support financial systems accounting activities to ensure information is accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
  • Work with stakeholders to maintain and improve accounting processes, ensuring they align with policy, standards, and internal governance.
  • Provide expert input into systems design and change, helping ensure finance requirements are built in from the start.
  • Support the production of financial reporting by validating data, resolving discrepancies, and improving reporting quality.
  • Contribute to internal control frameworks, including reviewing processes to reduce risk and strengthen compliance.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for accounting processes and system logic so teams can operate consistently.
  • Partner with finance and non-finance teams to ensure data integrity across relevant systems and reporting pipelines.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance the way finance systems are used day-to-day.
  • Support audit and assurance activities by providing clear evidence and responding to queries with confidence.

What We’re Looking For

  • You’re a fully qualified accountant (or part qualified), with strong systems and accounting fundamentals.
  • You have experience working with financial systems and understanding how data translates into accounting outputs.
  • You’re comfortable working with process controls, documentation, and governance requirements.
  • You can communicate clearly with both finance and operational stakeholders—explaining issues and solutions in a practical way.
  • You have strong attention to detail and a structured approach to problem-solving when data doesn’t add up.
  • You’re confident using reporting tools and working with data to validate accuracy and improve reliability.
  • You understand the importance of auditability: evidence, traceability, and consistency matter.

Salary & Allowance

  • ÂŁ42,450 to ÂŁ46,636 (National) at SEO level
  • Accountancy Allowance: ÂŁ5,000 per year (Fully Qualified) or ÂŁ2,500 per year (Part Qualified)

Benefits

  • Opportunity to work on a high-impact portfolio with real influence on government property decisions.
  • Be part of a mission-driven organisation focused on creating great places to work.
  • Support and development opportunities to help you grow your systems and finance expertise.
  • A collaborative environment where your technical judgement and process thinking will be valued.
