Clerky, Inc.

Clerky Customer Operations & Writing Specialist — Be the Voice That Helps Founders Move Fast

At Clerky, we build software that makes legal paperwork easier for startups and the attorneys who support them. We’re profitable, growing sustainably, and trusted by high-growth technology startups for everything from formation to fundraising.

As a Customer Operations & Writing Specialist, you’ll be the voice of Clerky for thousands of founders, investors, and attorneys. When someone needs critical legal paperwork handled—often under real deadlines—your writing and judgment help them get unstuck. And because our growth is driven heavily by word-of-mouth, your work directly impacts our reputation for service quality.

What Makes This Role Different

This isn’t a “reply with a template and move on” customer support job. At Clerky, questions are often nuanced and specialized. You’ll frequently need to interpret what’s being asked, identify what information is missing, and respond with clarity and care—sometimes without being able to give a definitive answer.

Expect an environment that values craftsmanship. Great responses require focus, iteration, and a willingness to keep improving. If you enjoy learning, refining your writing, and thinking critically, you’ll thrive here.

What You’ll Do

You’ll work at the intersection of customer support, documentation, and product feedback—using your writing skills to help people complete important legal steps with confidence.

  • Write thoughtful, empathetic customer replies via our help desk system (Help Scout), ensuring responses are clear, precise, and genuinely helpful.
  • Maintain and improve Help Center articles, and actively identify opportunities for new articles based on recurring customer questions.
  • Partner with Engineering to debug customer issues—when software doesn’t behave as expected, you’ll help diagnose what’s happening and communicate it effectively.
  • Use Clerky’s tools to develop and manage improved workflows that help customers complete legal paperwork more smoothly.
  • Support Product by testing new features and bug fixes, then translating what you learn into actionable feedback.
  • Spot trends across customer inquiries so the right teams can address root causes—not just individual tickets.

How We Work

  • Remote-first, long before it was common: Clerky has been remote-first for many years and we’re experienced with distributed work.
  • Small team, meaningful impact: everyone’s contributions matter, and your work will be visible.
  • Autonomous and efficient: we trust you to know what will help you be productive, and we keep schedules flexible as long as coverage is maintained.
  • Open, collaborative culture: we work transparently and support each other so you can succeed.
  • Feedback is constant: we actively give and receive feedback—often several times a day.
  • Growth matters: you’ll have a budget for books, courses, tools, or other learning resources.

What We’re Looking For

This role rewards people who combine strong writing with analytical thinking and a genuine desire to help.

  • Genuine love for helping people—not just solving tickets, but improving outcomes for real humans.
  • High emotional intelligence, especially when customers are stressed, confused, or working against deadlines.
  • Logical / analytical thinking to interpret questions, identify gaps, and reason through next steps.
  • Exceptional written English communication skills, with the ability to write precisely, succinctly, and with the right tone.
  • Extreme attention to detail—because clarity and accuracy matter.
  • Comfort working remotely and independently, with the discipline to stay focused.
  • Technologically savvy—you should be confident learning new software without extensive training.
  • Comfort with frequent feedback loops (often multiple times per day).
  • Internal drive for excellence—you naturally want to improve your work and raise the bar.

Important fit notes:

  • If you prefer environments where you can quickly master everything and then operate on autopilot, this may not be the right fit.
  • If you prefer situations where there’s always a definitive answer, this may not be the right fit either—many customer questions require helping people figure it out rather than simply confirming a single “correct” response.

Minimum Requirements

  • Genuine love for helping people
  • High emotional intelligence
  • Logical / analytical thinker
  • Exceptional written English communication skills (precise and succinct)
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Comfort with working remotely and independently
  • Technologically savvy and able to learn new tools quickly
  • Appreciation for giving and receiving feedback often
  • Natural internal motivation to strive for excellence

No legal experience required. No legal background is necessary or preferred.
