About The Role

As a Laboratory Technician (PSS4-AS), you’ll provide essential technical support across Biology, Environmental Science, and Geology learning and research activities. You’ll support laboratory experiments and research protocols while ensuring compliance with applicable chemical safety requirements and established lab procedures.

What You’ll Do

  • Support laboratory experiments and research protocols by preparing materials, setting up lab activities, and assisting with day-to-day technical needs.
  • Ensure chemical safety compliance for laboratory experiments and research work, following required safety standards and procedures.
  • Maintain and support instrumentation used for teaching and lab instruction, helping ensure equipment is ready, functional, and properly used.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of lab activities, including verifying supplies, organizing workspaces, and maintaining lab readiness.
  • Prepare lab spaces and workflows so experiments can run efficiently and safely for students and faculty.
  • Coordinate technical support for instructional needs, helping instructors deliver hands-on learning experiences.
  • Maintain lab organization by supporting proper storage, labeling, and documentation practices as required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline lab processes and strengthen safety practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong laboratory technical skills with the ability to support biology, environmental science, and/or geology lab activities.
  • Working knowledge of chemical safety requirements and the ability to follow established safety protocols.
  • Experience supporting instrumentation used for teaching or lab instruction (or a strong technical background and willingness to learn equipment specifics).
  • Detail-oriented mindset—you take pride in safe, accurate setup and preparation.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong organization and time management to support multiple lab needs and scheduled teaching activities.
  • Good communication skills—you can clearly explain lab readiness, safety considerations, and equipment status.
