About The Role
As an AI Tutor – Materials Science Specialist at xAI, you’ll play a critical role in strengthening how we teach, validate, and apply materials science knowledge. You’ll work with teammates to guide AI models and improve performance in specialized materials domains—helping ensure that outputs are scientifically grounded, accurate, and useful for research workflows.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys deep technical thinking, teaching with precision, and collaborating with engineers and researchers to translate domain expertise into learning outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Teach and tutor materials science concepts in a way that supports both learning and practical application.
- Guide AI models with materials science expertise—helping improve responses related to specialized scientific questions.
- Develop tutoring content such as explanations, example problems, study guides, and structured learning paths.
- Validate and refine scientific reasoning to improve correctness, clarity, and relevance for research use cases.
- Collaborate with technical teams to understand how materials knowledge is being used and where improvements are needed.
- Support research-oriented learning by helping connect foundational concepts to advanced materials challenges.
- Identify gaps in explanations or model outputs and propose targeted improvements to tutoring materials and guidance.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong background in materials science (e.g., structure–property relationships, phases/material behavior, thermodynamics/kinetics, microstructure, materials characterization, or similar fundamentals).
- Proven ability to explain complex technical topics clearly, adapt explanations to different levels, and build learning confidence.
- Experience with tutoring, mentoring, teaching, or technical instruction—whether formally or through research collaboration.
- Comfort working with AI/ML-adjacent workflows (e.g., knowledge validation, prompt/tutor improvement, evaluation, or feedback loops).
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to scientific accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with engineers and researchers.
- A curious, improvement-minded approach—always looking for ways to make learning and outputs more reliable.
